Do you take care of yourself? Really? Up to which point?
If there is one thing I’ve learned since last year’s pandemic confinement, it is to sit down and think about myself, my life, my work, my everything, to find and get rid of anything that is no longer aligned with my today self.
Where I am now and where I want to be, what I want to reach in my near future must pass through caring about myself.
It has everything to do with selfishness for once. Stopping time to think about yourself is a must from time to time.
I’ve learned that in life, we can do almost everything. We just have to take care not to harm someone else in the process to sleep tight at night and enjoy the ride.
That being said, what will you do to take care of yourself today? Tomorrow? Every single day from now on?
There will be as many answers as people to this question. To really and truly take care of yourself, you have to be true to yourself, to be yourself.
It is pretty impossible to be happy in your life if you are always playing a role and living in someone else’s shadow. Being authentic is the key to happiness.
“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” — Shannon L. Alder
Once you have reached that point of being yourself, you will see that all the decisions you make will be about taking care of yourself; taking care of your real you!
Many say that taking care of yourself necessarily passes through others. You must be kind to others, treat others like you wish to be treated. I partially agree with that.
See, how many times have you been disillusioned about others, and why? That is the question: Why?
Mainly because we, as good human beings, often put other’s wellbeing before ours and, with time, we end up forgetting ourselves for others.
That is why it is so important to be true to ourselves. To better know who we are and then, being able to care more about what pleases us.
So, taking care of yourself means what exactly?
As for myself, it is to do what I am in the mood at this moment, right now.
I know to be important is to take time to do something that makes you relax — writing, reading, yoga, meditation. We are really not relaxing enough in our stressed lives.
I also realized that even when I write, I sometimes press myself to do it. I have to perform, to publish. I am on a schedule-Doh! What is that?
It is supposed to be a treat — a peaceful moment out of the day-to-day work. A meditation time also.
So today, I wish you to find the time to have a moment of relaxation. Give yourself that treat!
It is so important to take time for yourself and find clarity. The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. — Diane Von Furstenberg
