In the last few weeks, on four occasions, my partner and I have had applicants who have signed up with companies at the very last minute turnaround. Where did the respect go? Does your word no longer have any value?
The basis of any relationship is respect. Do you believe that by acting this way, your name will inspire confidence? We must never forget that there is always a swing back. I know you’re going to say to me, “but I got another offer that I couldn’t refuse.” Sorry. “Bullshit.” Offers, there will always be. You will often receive some, but your name, you only have one. Take care of it!
Currently, we are still in a pandemic, and we feel the fear very well in the labour market. What will happen in a few weeks, months? Nobody knows. Take note of it. The people you do this kind of blow to will remember your name forever.
Perhaps in 5 or 10 years, you will have the opportunity of the much-hoped-for position for your career advancement, and unfortunately, one of those people will be in charge, and you will be sorry for your actions. The world is small. On the other hand, does that $ 3 or $ 4 per hour more really change what will be left in your pockets at the end of the week? Very often, you will give more than half to the government in taxes. Do the math.
I am not disappointed with my lost commissions. It is only a postponement. It’s part of the business, but it is all the work done, the time taken for interviews, both with employers, references and more and with us. It’s frustrating, and it’s still our name that speaks for itself. If unluckily, this happens more than once with the same employer, our reputation will be damaged, that’s for sure. So please show a little more respect. Think about it!
