Ask yourself: Are you serious enough to win the game of life?
In his article “Want To Be Taken Seriously? Then Start Taking Yourself Seriously.” Anthony Moore shares an excellent point about everything you want to achieve in life.
As life goes on, we all want to do, learn, and accomplish things in our lives. To do so, we need to get into it, immerse ourselves, and go all in to the process of taking ourselves seriously enough to make it happen.
After all, if you are not serious enough about yourself, who will be?
First, do it for the right reasons.
The first thing you have to do is answer that simple question: “Why do I want to do this or that?”
If it is to impress, so impress yourself. Don’t do it to impress others, because if you are impressed about your achievement, they will be too. If not, who cares!
I’ve learned that most people will never take the plunge. They are not serious enough about themselves, so why look for their admiration for your accomplishments?
If you want to be an achiever, you must become a loner. People will probably try to discourage you or not care about you. So please do it for yourself, and when you reach the top, your success will talk for itself.
Without great solitude, no serious work is possible.- Picasso
Who could drive or break you?
As I am writing those lines, I am also in the process of reading the biography of a great Quebecer’s entrepreneur, Ray junior Courtemanche, Le bâtisseur visionnaire.»
That is only today that I become completely aware of the power of our entourage when we are younger.
We had quite the same kind of infancy, relatively poor, having only the basics and being bullied at primary school. The most significant difference is that Ray’s father encouraged him to pursue his dream as he thought it was the best way of doing things.
OK, maybe it was because there was no mother in the frame, and he was smart, a force of nature for his young age but, we did about the same thing around the same years, and I only accomplished a fraction of what he has done yet.
So what makes him a multi-millionaire today and not me? The surrounding people and the maturity!
I also learned early in life that to make money, you have to find what people do not want to do and offer your services to do it for them.
But I did not have the people around me to push me, to push further my enterprise at 14 years of age like Ray.
I had to go to school and try to fit in society’s mould. So I lost my interest, at that time, to become an entrepreneur. Let’s say that I had put it on pause.
Don’t misinterpret me; my parents were encouraging, but they did it with the knowledge they had. I am still grateful for my education.
Ray pursued his ascension. He focused on his goals and, note that he was only 18 years old!
You see, even if you have dreams and you are motivated, your entourage will empower or break you. It is pretty inevitable. Human nature!
So, if you are a parent, please think about what you say to your kids. Try to find their forces and help them to maximize their potential. Don’t be scared to go out of the track and teach them.
Help them to take themselves seriously. It will pay off later!
What does it mean; Being serious, exactly?
I like to work with my hands; I’m a pretty good handyman and to create things from scratch or renovate them brings me great joy, so when reading that article it only reminded me what I did every time I wanted to do something new; I learned how to from professionals. I teach myself online and immerse myself in the process. I took it seriously!
When I wanted to invest in the stock market, I forced myself to learn about it by reading books and blogs and watching professionals on videos explaining it. I did not become an expert, far from it, but I know now where to put my money and why I do it.
Everything you want to achieve in life requires the same process. You have to immerse yourself in the process to acquire what is needed to reach your goal.
It will never work if, like many, you have one foot on each side of the line. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger once said:
There is no plan B. It is all in, period!
Nobody will ever want to deal with someone who is not serious enough about himself. And, another thing not to forget; if you get involved, let’s say, at about 50% into your project, you will waste your time. Nothing will ever take off.
I am not talking about taking yourself too seriously all the time. That is all about the seriousness you put in your projects, in your goals.
Everyone knows that taking ourselves too seriously is a problem by itself. One must have fun in every aspect of life. One does not prevent the other!
“One must be serious about something if one wants to have any amusement in life.” ― Oscar Wilde, John Cooper, The Importance of Being Earnest
We all know someone who failed because of his lack of seriousness. I call them the “I will-I know” people. Does it ring a bell?
You should do it now! Yes, I will!
You should get back to school! Yes, I will, one day!
You should invest instead of burning your money all the time on crap stuff! Yes, I will. I know…
We can make a never-ending list of “I will” and “I know” people. It is the worst disease to catch until it becomes a habit which, for the most I know, will stick with those who never learned to take themselves seriously.
Your most important tasks and priorities are those that can have the most serious consequences, positive or negative, on your life or work. Focus on these above all.- Brian Tracy
Thank you for this article, it brings me back to what's important and should be focused on. Personally, I'm about to embark on a new job opportunity, something I have never experienced before and totally new for me. I'm really excited about it and I have the drive to succeed to become the absolute best I can be over time in my new position. For me, this is personal, it's about seeing how good and successful I can really be. How far am I willing to take myself, to experience true success? I think if you like something, your focus will be totally in for it and if you give it time, stick it out in the good and bad days, over time…
